Resident Evil trailer

The first showing of the day is for the new Resident Evil film from Zach Cregger, which launches on 18th September. The trailer is pretty brutal, showing the protagonist emerging from a tunnel to a load of undead raining down on cars parked in the street.

“From the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) comes a thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise”, reads a blurb. “In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.”

A new Wolverine trailer

Next up, a Wolverine launch trailer.

“Experience an original take on Marvel legend Wolverine as he joins forces with mutants across the globe in a fight for survival,” reads a trailer. “Standing against forces like Bolivar Trask, Omega Red, Deathstrike and more… Logan knows the world needs a hero; however, they’ll have to settle for Wolverine.”

Marvel’s Wolverine launches soon; 15th September, 2026, on PlayStation 5 consoles.

Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition – Most Wanted Trailer

Next, we get a trailer for the ‘most wanted’ update for Ghost of Totei. This new mode is a combat survival mode designed to gauge your strength and test your resilience, per the trailer blurb. “Fight off waves of enemies and take on challenging new boss encounters. All sorts of new incentives await; earn everything from new weapons and cosmetics to playable characters you can unlock.”

Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted available 1st October, 2026.

Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance gets its first proper trailer

The Wilds evolve with the massive expansion, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, coming in 2027. We don’t have a proper release date for this yet, but if I know Capcom, I’d assume it launches around February.

“A giant dragon’s sudden siege heralds change in the Forbidden Lands, for both land and sky,” reads a description of the trailer. “Bracing for danger, the Expedition steels themselves as familiar and undiscovered Elder Dragons emerge – and a disturbing new threat prowls the land.”

We get a good look at a series of new monsters that are coming for the expansion, building on mechanics established in the base game.

Metro 2039 PS5 gameplay trailer

Next up, it’s Metro 2039 – something we’ve not seen running on console yet (it’s all been very fancy PC footage so far. I’m here to tell you that this game is very, very good, and I cannot wait to see more about what’s going on with its story.

Maneater 2 announcement

The devs call it a ‘shaRkPG’, but I see it more like a shark-infested sandbox. ” Eat, explore, and evolve as you try to escape an invite-only preview event for Neptune’s Kingdom—an ultra-luxury seaside theme park destined for disaster, where YOU are that disaster.”

It looks like good, dumb fun. No release date was included.

Crimson Desert DLC reveal

On 15th October, you can return to Pywel to finish off some unfinished business in Crimson Desert, with the Charting the Unknonwn DLC.

“The story of Pywel continues in Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown as Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane set out to discover their purpose and shape their futures. However, as turmoil unfolds around them, each must fight to forge a path through the trials ahead. Join them on a new adventure and discover what new possibilities await across Pywel.”

It looks… fine? More of the same, to a large degree.

Final Fantasy Resonance gets a demo today

Final Fantasy Resonance, next. There’s a demo live on PlayStation today, and you can play the entire first chapter and carry your save data across to the final game.

Resonance comes to PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Xbox and PC on 22nd October.

A trio of indie games PlayStation wants to spotlight

The first game in a trio of titles PlayStation wants to highlight, it’s a folk horror game that takes place across one night called Hunter’s Moon.

Next, publisher by Annapurna and from the developers of Maquette, there’s a nice isometric-looking game where you need to ‘save a land from the unravelling’ by being a ‘finder of lost things’. It’s called Uncanyon.

Finally, from Double Fine, it’s Keeper – a story told without words. This game has already launched on Xbox, but now the studio is a true indie again, it’s nice to see the game releasing elsewhere. Keeper launches on PlayStation today.

LEGO PlayStation 1 revealed

I mean, this looks absolutely incredible, doens’t it?

Featuring the original PlayStation controller, a working disc lid, two dioramas celebrating Gran Turismo and Ape Escape hidden inside the console, the whole thing is packed with easter eggs. A real ode to the best-looking machine of 1994, I’m sure this thing is going to cost an absolute arm and a leg, but is it worth it? Yeah.

Konami RPG Rev. Noir gets its second trailer

A terrible name, but a very interesting looking RPG from Konami, of all people.

“Upon being rescued by Finé, a young boy named Asch joins her on a journey to stop the lightfall, a catastrophe that kills all it touches,” reads a blurb. “Little do they know what awaits them at the end of their mission to save the world… Defy cruel fate in this all-new RPG!”

It certainly looks like a Japanese RPG, maybe the sort you’f get on PS2 or PS3 – but hey, there’s a strong appetite for that kind of game, and I’m not complaining. I have a reserved interest in this one.

Konami announced a wild-looking action game called Rhapsody in Scarlet

OK, speaking of PS3-era looking games, this looks like delightful nonsense.

“Set in the jazz-filled streets of 1920s New York, magus Ellie Myers embarks on a journey to confront a threat that could shake the world,” reads a blurb.

You have to see it to belive it, really. ‘What if Bayonetta but jazz’ it has the audacity to ask.

Saros gets a new update, ‘Zenith’, makes the game easier

Zenith, the next big free content update to Saros, adds new replayable game modes and various new visual and control options to make the game accessible to even more players – at least that’s what Sony hopes. To this end, new accessibility features, including High-Contrast visuals, gyro aiming with the DualSense wireless controller, and the toggleable “Slow Game Speed” option have been added, too.

It also adds Overlord Rush, a brand new mode where you can take on the powerful Overlord enemies from the main game back-to-back. “Go for a high score, and compete with players around the world using integrated leaderboards in a throwback to the classic arcade-style Housemarque is known for” says a blurb. That’s more like it.

This update also brings “”Eclipse Layers””, a new game+ mode which allows seasoned enforcers to put their skills to the ultimate test. After clearing the game, you can return to the beginning and take on a more challenging version of the game.

Gran Turismo 7 gets a massive new update

Forgive me, I wasn’t able to type and look at the subtitles at the same time, so I’m a bit light on what the details on this one were.

I do know that the Gran Turismo 7 Spec 4 update launches in two parts later this year (October and December) that will bring us new circuits, new cars, Family Mode, and more.

Until Dawn 2 arrives January 2027

We get a release date for Until Dawn 2, and a very lush, very high-adrenaline new trailer.

The trailer shows off a very fancy-looking narrative ‘choose your own adventure’, with some very high productiuon values and a very intesnse story. You wouldn’t expect any less would you.

The game launches January 28th, 2027.

GTA 6 DualSense controllers revealed

Are you bored of GTA 6 yet? It’s gonna be a long year if you are.

Here’s some info about the new controllers unveiled today: “Featuring a shimmering, iridescent finish, textured palm leaf details, and official Grand Theft Auto VI branding, they’re a bold tribute to modern day Vice City.”

Thing is, you know this is going to be a best-seller, right?

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation gets a release date in April 2027

There was a new sizzle reel for the final part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake saga: Revelation. This came with a release date – 8th April, 2027.

I played a build of what is being shown here at Gamescom 2026, so in short order I’ll have some thoughts about this game. I can’t say too much just yet, but I think the quality of what Square Enix is showing off here speaks for itself.

The trailer is being followed-up with a massive 10-minute deep dive into the game, showing the world, how the Highwind airship works, how you can swap between characters on the fly, how the job system works, and what new areas look like in Revelation. The world, it’s worth noting, has pretty much all the locations from Remake and Rebirth in, as well as its own unique locations (such as Wutai).

We also get to see how truly open world the title is as we see Yuffie airdive into the centre of Wutai. You can go pretty much anywhere you please this way – I do like the promise of that much freedom.

State of Play Japan kicks off with Dragon Ball Z Xenoverse 3

We kick off the Japanese side of things with – of course – Dragon Ball Z Xenoverse 3. It’s coming at an unspecified time in 2027, and looks like it contains more or less every single character that has ever even thought about being in the DBZ universe. I’m exhausted looking at it.

“Choose from six unique Avatar races, including the new Android race, and customize your combat style with Fighting Styles, Soul Assist, Awoken Skills, Soul Switch, Abilities, and more,” says a blurb.

“With more than 130 characters, including non-playable characters, to learn from, build the fighter that matches how you want to move, transform, attack, and dominate every battle.”

Fate/Extra Record comes to PS4 and PS5 next year

Yes, this game was originally released on 22nd July, 2010 in Japan, but as it’s the Fate series’ very first RPG, it’s getting a remake. And it’s coming out next year. “It delivers a highly accessible entry point for newcomers” per a press release, while offering a fresh, exciting experience for returning fans of the original.

It arrivs on 28th January, 2027

A deep dive on Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance

Bear with me; there’s a big talking segment diving into the nuance of the new Monster Hunter Wilds expansion at the moment, but we’ve actually heard all this before.

Yesterday, Capcom got ahead of the game a little bit by showing off some trailers focusing specifcally on weapons – and I’ve written about what that tells us about the upcoming changes to all 14 weapon types already.

If you want a quick recap, there are some amazing looking moves on offer for us; a really impactful and punchy hammer moveset that looks like it allows you to ‘perfect guard’ more easily, opening up a more aggressive style of play (and resulting in a sort-of Hammer-based shoryuken, amazingly). The Charge Blade seems to have a ‘counter hadoken’, and the Great Sword (dedicated video below) opens up versatility with a whole new aerial moveset.

A new Dragon Quest Monsters 3: The Withered World trailer

See you in the Wrangler’s Gauntlet? No, that’s not an innuendo, it’s a real feature in Dragon Quests Monsters 3, where you can ‘aim to become the ultimate monster wrangler.’

There’s a new trailer for the game, announcing it’ll arrive on PlayStation 5 (but also other platforms) on 3rd December, 2026.

The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes gets its first trailer

“The first-ever console game for The Eminence in Shadow is coming!” I have to admit, I do not know this series, but the press release seems very enthusiastic.

You can see the trailer for the ‘rogue-lite action game’, below, and it’s scheduled to launch in 2027.

Beloved football anime Blue Lock is coming to Rematch

Sloclap has announced that the long requested in-game collaboration with beloved football anime, Blue Lock, is officially coming to Rematch. Launching on 24th September, the first look was only a short teaser, but it did show an Blue Lock characters – Yoichi Isagi, Meguru Bachira, Seishiro Nagi, and Rin Itoshi – that will be included in this crossover.

A press release reads:

“From the very first moment we revealed Rematch, the community has non-stop been asking us to bring Blue Lock onto our pitch, and we’re so excited to confirm that yes, it’s finally happening!” said Pierre Tarno, Creative Director of Rematch.

“We’re huge fans of Blue Lock at the studio, so getting to work together to bring the fans this crossover has been incredible. When the collaboration launches on 24th September, Blue Lock fans will learn that on the Rematch pitch, even the greatest egoists will need their teammates to succeed.”

Where Seeds Fall reveal trailer, plus a ‘mid-size’ new label from Cygames

Where the Seeds Fall has been announced, and it is the debut title from CygamesEdge; a new label from Cygames. A little speech announces that this game is aiming to do slightly smaller games, and make them quicker, providing a more rapid turnaround for the publisher.

This game is a platforming adventure really not ideal for anyone with acrophobia.

“The earth has been afflicted with Blight, forcing humanity to build new homes upon the branches of the World Tree,” says a blurb. “It is a place fraught with peril, and in their fear, humanity has branded “”Fell Children”” as omens of disaster. After encountering a Fell Child, however, one soldier goes against orders and determines to escort them to the surface world. Descend the World Tree by navigating ruins, reading the wind, and taking leaps of faith in this thrilling action-adventure game.”

I have to say, it certainly looks like an interesting take on the climbing/descending mini-genre that’s evovled over the past few years.

Stupid Never Dies gets a demo today

The latest trailer for Stupid Never Dies, GPTRACK50’s all-new Blazing Fast Growth Action RPG, is here. It remains as irreverent and obnoxious as ever, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t also have a certain charm to it. You can download and try a demo for the game today on PS5.

The general premise of the game? “Watch the weakest zombie grow ridiculously powerful and fight his way to the top in the ultimate underdog adventure.”

The full game is out on 22nd October.

Cyberpunk side-scrolling action roguelike SlashZero gets a limited-time demo

This one looks cool.

“SlashZero is a side-scrolling action roguelike game featuring a roster of un”ique playable characters, fluid action, aerial combat and infinite build possibilities,” according to the blurb. The character design is a bit, erm, boob-y, but I really like the look of the fighting game-esque movesets and spacing you’ll need to master in order to get through this one.

“In SlashZero, you will traverse through shattered timelines, wield flashy combo abilities paired with unique enhancements to take down Hieros-I and unravel the hidden truth of this broken world.”

I’ll probably give the demo a whirl.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger gets new DLC, A Hero’s Eternal Legacy, in 2027

I finished the amin game for this one, and you know what? I had a really good time. It’s the best Digimon game in years – getting a bit more is no bad thing.

Open world, action-RPG CONQ: Crown Of No Quarter makes its world debut

This one really reminds me of the old Viking game on PS2. Just me? This open world, action-RPG features naval combat, tactical combat, and lots of violence. It’s a bit Game of Thrones, a bit Vikings, a bit ‘we’ve got Black Flag at home’. I quite enjoy how shonky it looks, but maybe that’s just me.

“You were promised the heavens, but found only eternal purgatory—unable to escape, unable to truly die. Gather your forces across sea and land, show no mercy, and give your enemies no quarter. It’s time to bleed again.”

Konami drops two more story trailers for games shown earlier in the State of Play

New trailers drop for Rev. Noir and Rhapsody in Scarlet.

I don’t have much to say about Rev. Noir, but Rhapsody in Scarlet is certainly intriguing. Set in New York City in the 1920s – which seems to be a dazzling metropolis filled with the sound of jazz and the glow of soaring skyscrapers – this game dares to ask “what if the madia used magick”. Yes, really. Spelled the Alastair Crowley way and everything.

“Though the free-spirited Ellie and the serious-minded Ilya frequently clash, they gradually forge a strong bond as they investigate the schemes of a mysterious mafia organization,” reads a blurb. “Their investigation draws them ever deeper into the city’s secrets, revealing a fateful battle that threatens the very balance of the world.”

This is one that will live or die on how it feels in your hands, but it certainly looks flashy enough.

Daba: Land of Water Scar gets a new trailer

We got another big trailer for Daba: Land of Water Scar – which was first shown at China Joy 2025, if I remember correctly.

This game is from developer Dark Star, and it tells the story of a humanoid clay puppet. When the world is on the verge of collapse, the puppet traces the whereabouts of the water fragments within the ancient city, and throughout their journey of defeating enemies and seeking answers, unravels the story of the world and oneself.

In a sort-of Souls-y way, non-linear levels are interconnected, distinct, and intricate. The game is set to launch in Q2 2027.

“You are a clayman that should never have awakened, walking across the ruined snowfields and desolate deserts. The shattered souls of fallen gods rain down from the sky, and a plague creeps in the shadows,” reads a blurb. “Beneath the ancient mask, twin blades rest in your grip. Cross the parched earth, cut the lies. The missions forced upon you. The ambitions that burn. And every hand that tries to pull your strings.”

And finally… a Ghost of Yōtei ‘Echoes of Sekigahara’ narrative trailer

We’ve know about Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition, its story additions, a new roguelike survival mode, and more for a while already, but it’s nice to have a reminder.

Today, to wrap up the State of Play double-header, we got a cinematic trailer focusing on the new version of the game and Ghost of Yōtei’s expansion Echoes of Sekigahara. This is a brand-new story expansion that delves into Atsu’s past, along with her experiences during the Battle of Sekigahara.

Per a press relese, it will let you explore a whole new area of Ezo, complete with new enemies, diversify your fighting style with a new weapon type to master, new armor types, new cosmetics, and more.
